Sir John x WBeauty Volume 2
Available at Woolworths
Winter is slowly taking its final bow, making way for the long-awaited self-care season – springtime.
As we prepare to trade in coats for rompers and modify our skincare routines, it’s only fitting that our make-up regimens follow suit.
Think glowing, hydrated and healthy skin complemented by minimal make-up with pops of colour on the eyes. For lips, go subtle or opt for classic red to perfect your pout.
There’s a saying that goes: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” and the Sir John x WBeauty Volume 2 collection stuck to its beauty secrets. Although there aren’t drastic changes from the previous volume, I enjoyed the slight difference of the new hues that were added to the palette. I wish they had added less pink to the lipstick range and more bolder choices such as a dark auburn red or brown. Apart from this, the range is holistically a good sequel.
Lipstick (R160)
3/5
The hydro lipstick is great. My favourite colour is scarlet red. It gives the desired matte look while its creamy texture keeps your lips nourished. The range includes nudes and bright pinks – my least favourite.
Though the bright pink lipstick doesn’t complement my skin tone, the bright pink lip gloss feels amazing, it left my lips feeling moisturised. But pink lips just aren’t for me and this was the confirmation I needed.
Eyeshadow palette (R399)
4/5
Volume 2’s eyeshadow palette isn’t too different from Volume 1. It has more iridescent colours, with brighter pinks, purples, golds and browns, while retaining its signature greens and blues, whereas the previous range had a lot more matte orange shades. I absolutely love this palette because the colours look good on any skin tone, giving me a sultry and classy look.
You don’t need too much product to achieve your colour pop. All it takes is a simple wetting of the brush or, alternatively, you can use your finger to apply. My only qualm with the palette is that it has a lot of fallout, so I’d recommend wetting your brush.
Illuminator stick and powder (R190)
5/5
The range also includes an illuminating stick. I swear by this because it isn’t as harsh on the skin as a powder. It’s creamy and gives a hydrated glow to your cheekbones, and adds shimmer to all the right places.
Unfortunately, it’s too light for my skin tone and looks like a concealer rather than a highlighter, so I use it with the illuminator powder to achieve that glow.
Along with the illuminator powder is blusher, which gives the skin a warm and healthy-looking tone. Because I’m not a fan of blusher, I use it as eyeshadow instead.
