Rockets in Bryanston was the venue for singer Anatii’s birthday celebration.

The Sandton native booked out the top tier of this eatery and invited some media, friends and family.

Being that it is Januworry, lots of media showed up for the first dose of canapés and cognac for the year.

Anatii is now 26 years old and after dropping his album, Iyeza, last year to much acclaim, the brother seems to just want to relax for a little and hang out.

He’s by no means as flamboyant as some of the other Johannesburg north-siders. There was a cake and a bit of a spectacle when he arrived.

Those in the small room sang happy birthday to him and that was it.

The event was thrown by Courvoisier which is a drink that has had a close affiliation with hip-hop for years, ever since Busta Rhymes asked us to “pass the Courvoisier”.

Nomzamo Mbatha Chilling at the bar. She just needs to cough and you’re captivated

The brand, of course, had one of its men in suits address the room and he told everybody to try out Anatii’s signature cocktail made with the cognac.

He is a full-blown ambassador for this company.

A few celebs used the opportunity to get back on the social scene. Riky Rick was there sporting a particularly street look.

His baggy sweatpants looked like he had either just come back from shooting the You Got Served sequel or perhaps he was spray painting a wall somewhere.

He was even rocking the face mask that is all the rage on fashion runways at the moment; we can thank the Asian rap scene for this. It all worked though.

Khanya Mkangisa takes a break from interviews to flash a smile

Khanya Mkangisa was doing her Selimathunzi thing in her usual bubbly and effervescent manner as rapper Sjava strolled into the room with his posse. Nomzamo Mbatha was also there just chilling.

Even when she’s doing nothing, she does it with a sultry swagger. Someone you wouldn’t think was friends with Anatii, R&B and pop crooner Danny K, was also there to show his buddy some love, as well as another low-key brother, Tressor.

Anatii thanked everyone for pulling through; he doesn’t seem to be a man of many words but that’s fine as his album screams what’s on his mind. The DJ Shludu very cleverly played his record as wave after wave of finger foods was brought out.

Iyeza has such an eclectic and genuine feel that he could easily get away with having this played at his own party without seeming like an arrogant schmuck.

MANALA SINGS She definitely has pipes but Adele can be a hard cover for most of us

His sister Manala sang Adele’s Hometown Glory, which is a tough song along with anything else in Adele’s catalogue.

But she is skilled and it will be interesting to see her art take shape further as she already has a single out there called Soze and a very talented brother to sit behind the production desk or even ride a track with her.
