If you find it a struggle to quit smoking, you will be pleased to hear that there’s a new alternative to help you.

Smokers gathered at The Roof in Fourways on a chilly Thursday night to celebrate the launch of Philip Morris’ new product IQOS, its latest tech-savvy and less harmful “cigarette” offering.

As a non-smoker I was relieved and impressed to notice that no cigarette smell could be detected in the room, thanks to the advanced technology of the IQOS cigarettes.

IQOS marketing director Rishaad Hajee said they had a vision to create a smoke-free future.

“What we know is that there are 7 million smokers in South Africa and we need to bring in alternative options. So we want to ensure through technological developments, there are better alternatives for adult smokers who would otherwise continue to use cigarettes, ” he said.

WELL PACKAGED Olebogeng Maoka and brand influencer Tshepi Vundla were also in attendance

IQOS chose DJ Fistaz Mixwell to host this event because he is an IQOS user and switching to IQOS has helped change his life for the better.

“We developed this experience with DJ Fistaz Mixwell to better demonstrate the impact that technology can have, in different ways” says Rishaad Hajee, Marketing Manager at Philip Morris South Africa. “It provided an opportunity to show how, through technological developments, there are better alternatives for adult smokers who would otherwise continue to use cigarettes.”

Fistaz entertained the audience throughout the evening with his legendary jams and new offerings the House community love him for.

Influencer and fashion stylist Tshepi Vundla said she was impressed by the packaging and was glad that smokers (among whom she does not count) were being offered an alternative.

Isidingo actress and MC for the night, Jo-Anne Reyneke, who described herself as a “heavy, heavy 15-year-smoker of about 20 cigarettes a day”, was impressed by the new offering from IQOS which promised the possibility of living a better life.

“I was like, what product is that? They said IQOS and I said tell me more!

“I love the packaging. I mean on a first date you whip out your shiny device, I could even lie about what it is and get this, man! It’s not messing with my swag,” she joked.
