Jade Zwane had a chat with obstetrician-gynaecologist Dr Josh Matambo about aesthetic gynaecology and its role in empowering women in the bedroom.

WHY AESTHETIC GYNAECOLOGY?

I found that my patients were increasingly asking me for services which fall under the umbrella term “aesthetic gynaecology”.

I have seen first-hand the distress suffered by many patients with issues related to their vaginas, including vaginal laxity (looseness) owing to childbirth and painful intercourse because of the natural shape of their labia.

It was essential to give my patients access to global best practice procedures, which are mostly non-invasive and which deliver immediate positive results.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PROCEDURE TO PERFORM AND WHY?

Labiaplasty is my favourite procedure. It requires reconstructive surgical skill to redesign the labia minora.

Usually, women with elongated labia are unable to wear tight underwear and may have problems during intercourse. They may be embarrassed and have low self-esteem.

Reconstructive surgery of the labia results in a whole new positive attitude for these women. Not only do they get the freedom to wear any underwear or tight clothes, but the self-confidence the results bring makes this delicate surgery so worth it.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST POPULAR PROCEDURE AND HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The O-Shot is very popular, particularly among younger women. This procedure involves injecting the patient’s own plasma-rich blood into their clitoris. The O-Shot helps women have more frequent and more intense clitoral orgasms.

I think the reason this is popular has a lot to do with younger women taking full control of their sexuality. Women recognise that sex is not just about pleasing their partner, but that they have the right to enjoy sex as well.

This procedure is designed to enhance the sexual experience for women and continues to get rave reviews.

The cost of the O-Shot is R7 500.

WHO SHOULD USE YOUR SERVICES?

My aesthetic gynaecology services are available to all women.

The detailed consultation I have with the patient assists the patient in making an informed decision on whether she does require any treatment and also what type of treatment she needs.

The treatments can either be non-surgical or surgical, depending on the issue at hand. I pride myself on doing non-invasive procedures as much as possible.

ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?

I would like to share about our “lunchtime” procedures, which are done in my consulting rooms and involve no surgery or down time. We offer vaginal tightening and vaginal bleaching, as well as the O-Shot and G-Shot [an injection that enhances feeling in the G-spot], which are all completed in less than an hour from arrival to departure.

What makes these procedures relatively quick is that they are non-invasive. I utilise the latest equipment and methods. Vaginal tightening and bleaching are an excellent example of this.

I am one of only a handful of doctors in South Africa who have been trained and are accredited to utilise the best laser technology on the market, the FemiLift. It is painless in its application and has truly revolutionised aesthetic gynaecology.
