An app for anything, anytime, anywhere

An app for anything, anytime, anywhere.

Lazy to cook? There’s an app for that. Feel like changing your home’s décor, but want to see how it will look before you embark on the project? Yes, there’s also an app for that. Listening to a song and have no idea of the artist or title? You guessed it: there’s an app for that too.

You would think that with all the apps already out there, there wouldn’t be a need for any more. Wrong!

Having navigated my way through three brand-new apps this week alone, I reached the conclusion that every possible situation we could find ourselves in requires an app.

And these three apps are timed to come out just right. For example, Easter holidays are here, and so is the new Rejoice app, full of African Christian content that’s easy to navigate.

I don’t go to church as much as I should, but as I browsed through the app, I realised that I had church services – as many and as varied as I wanted – in the palm my hand. I watched a sermon, listened to a hymn and read a verse.

The option to upload my own content on to their page won me over – I was excited at the prospect of being able to share my favourite gospel tunes with others. Using this app, any true believer is bound to be inspired.

Amid the drama of pre-election fever that has taken hold, SABC is determined to keep the country informed via its new SABC News app.

I was amazed at how much content I could find on the app, given the broadcaster’s shameful history of media censorship. I watched SABC’s news on my smartphone screen; no need for a TV. All of the broadcaster’s radio stations were available on the app for me to listen to, and I could also read its newsfeeds.

But what caught my attention the most was the “elections” tab on the page because that’s what’s hot at the moment. A click on that tab presented me with a number of options, including one named “parties”.

I thought I would find some news about each political party contesting the May elections, but all I got was general news coverage about what parties were up to rather than current, specific reads.

I was disappointed, but took comfort in the new Kauai app, advertising the franchise’s nutritious food and drink offerings. It won’t leave you feeling lazy, because although you are able to order ahead using the app, you still have to get up and go to collect your food.

With its aesthetically pleasing and easy-to-navigate interface, the food looks enticing. This app is the epitome of customercentric service as it gives you the convenient option of ordering ahead – and you can even customise your meal online by swapping chicken for steak, a wholewheat wrap for a low-carb one and choosing from a selection of add-ons at the click of a button.

. All three apps are available for free on Android and iOS

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
