When you put seven women with different personalities in one room expect nothing but drama and betrayal. The Real Housewives of Johannesburg season 2 makes its return on our TV screens next month.

The show introduces viewers to new faces Lebo Gunguluza, married to popular businessperson Lebo Gunguluza, Lethabo “Lejoy” Mathatho of LeJoy Foundation, jewellery designer Mpho Merriweather, actress Tarina Patel and Nompumelelo “Mops” Mophatlane, who is married to IT mogul Isaac Mophatlane.

The familiar faces in this season are entrepreneur Brinnette Seopela and musician Christall Kay.

Evodia “Madam” Mogase, who was the viewers’ favourite, announced at the end of season 1 that she would not be returning to the show for the second season.

Seopela appears to be the queen of the show this season.

An excited Seopela told City Press that the reason she was back was because she felt she owed viewers an explanation because much had happened in her life.

“I am officially divorced. I got my divorce decree in May and many viewers are going to see cameras following me around going to court.

“My story line wasn’t strong last season, but this time around people are going to see the real Brinnette and what I went through personally,” Seopela said.

Seopela went through an ugly divorce with her ex-husband Themba Gezane and all will be revealed on the show. “I am single and ready to mingle,” she said, laughing.

She said the lesson she had learnt from the previous season was that she should not trust anyone – especially women. “It’s sad that as women we always destroy and bring one another down, instead of building up one another,” she said.

The South African instalment of The Real Housewives, which kicks off on October 18, 1Magic (DStv 103 at 7pm), gets behind the scenes of the lives of seven interesting women, zooming into their personal lives, VIP parties and their extensive collection of handbags and shoes.

Ahead of The Real Housewives, we spoke to bubbly Mophatlane, who told City Press this week that she was excited to be part of the show.

“The first time I watched Real Housewives of Johannesburg season 1, I was hooked and it was my dream to be on season 2,” she said.

The 33-year-old, who has been married for 11 years, described a housewife as the most hard-working person on earth. “I wear the crown of being a housewife with pride. As housewives we play so many roles hence people always undermine us,” said the mother of two.

Mophatlane said she was close to Mathatho on the show, because they clicked the first day they met. “You can’t trust any woman on the show, but I trust Lethabo because our friendship is genuine,” she said. But viewers are going to witness the other side of Mophatlane, when it’s time to stand up for herself and fight for what she believes is right. “From the show I’ve learnt to be tolerant and to always watch my back,” she said.
