Idols SA season 11 winner Karabo Mogane has released his debut album titled Love Is a Verb. City Press caught up with him

How does it feel to have won Idols?

Honestly I’m speechless. If I had to put it in words I would say highly blessed and amazing. To have won the biggest season has been a great honour.

I still can’t believe it when I watch TV. It feels like I have conquered and I’m going forward.

How has it changed your life?

It has changed my life in a very big way. I have travelled to England and Swaziland, and I plan to travel to other countries. Idols has opened doors for me.

I run my own business, which is called Karabo Music Productions. I am in a happy space at the moment.

What inspires you to make music?

When I was growing up I was surrounded by music and both my parents have always been passionate about it. When I was young we would sing songs in Sunday school and I was so inspired.

In my primary and high school days I was in the school choirs.

I also took part in eisteddfods, which gave me the confidence I needed. I realised my calling for music in high school. I was always a very versatile art student. Both my parents fully support my passion for music.

The third track on your album is a love song called 3 Steps. Is there special someone in the picture?

No, not at the moment. I would like to establish myself first as a musician and there is never enough [time] at this stage in my life.

If I had to date someone now then she would have to see me on a timetable and that would not be fair on her.

I would like to find myself and reach out to people as an artist. Once I am well established, I will begin the hunt for my special someone.

Track 10 - Greater Days. What does it say about your spiritual life?

I am a Christian. Greater days is a prophecy. The Bible says: “Whatever comes out of your mouth shall be.” That song is a vision of the bright future I have ahead of me.

The song is not for me only but for everyone who listens to it as well. Sometimes we pray to God and we ask for things and sometimes it feels like he is never going to deliver. Greater days inspires you to hold on to him and to never give up.
