For the love of jazz

accreditation

SA’s jazz artists and musicians graced the annual Kliptown Public Arts Festival in Soweto last weekend in a bid to revive the arts in the township and remind people of their love of jazz.

Njabulo Zulu, managing director of Indoni Arts and Entertainment, said the festival was meant to provide a platform for black South African artists and to show appreciation for their craft.

The festival presented a feast of art and performances, ranging from street theatre, choreographed dance pieces and exhibitions to action painting. It culminated in a jazz music fest at three different venues in the same street in Pimville, including the GAG Lounge (Jacob’s Place) and Meli’s Lounge, where Afro-funk and deep House musicians upped the tempo.

Photographer Mpumelelo Buthelezi captured the mood.
