Entrepreneur Eric Bangira and his marketing partner Tamuka Chandipa have created their own educational card games, intended to get people away from their screens – cellphones and laptops – and interacting with each in a fun way.

Called MaCroco Card Games, they’re for literally anyone aged four and up, and task players to test their memory, draw the missing parts on illustrations, match pictures, identify figures, choose animals in sequence and a host of other activities.

“After they’re created we take them to crèches and preschools to determine the benefits and fun aspects of the games. The games are also analysed by focus groups that include parents and teachers before finally being released to the general public,” says Chandipa.

To create the games, Bangira looks at basic problems people encounter in their everyday lives and tries to find solutions. Chandipa says one of his bestselling games, Calculating 101, was inspired by how people always avoid sitting in the front of the taxi because they have to calculate the change. “It is these simple and seemingly obvious problems we try to eliminate in a fun and interactive manner.”

The decks are 100% recyclable paper and use matte paper to keep them low cost.

“The games have been received very well in malls where we set up tables for markets. We currently sell at Heathway Centre and pictures of happy clients at our table can be found on our social media,” says Chandipa. “Our games have also been approved by the Bryanston Organic Market selection committee and they pride themselves for products that are environmentally friendly and healthy for the whole family. The response from children at these markets is also overwhelming, as they are drawn to the product even though it is new and not as flashy as other games in the same market.”
