The new Honda Amaze pays attention to the little details and Muhammad Hussain is digging it.

Honda Amaze 1.2 Comfort CVT

Price: R208 900 with 5-year/200 000km warranty and a 2-year/30 000km service plan

. . . . -

Sometimes you drive a car and you feel like you are a sardine in a tin can, swaying left to right and uncertain whether the car will survive the next pothole.

With the Honda Amaze 1.2 Comfort CVT, you feel secure in the knowledge that this won’t happen. With its plush cloth, well-cushioned beige seats, powerful steering wheel feel and decent fuel consumption, the Amaze is truly a joy to drive.

Automatic cars are not my thing and, before this one, I had only driven two for a few hours each. When I saw this was an automatic car, I was a bit anxious.

After slamming on the brakes a few times (in the parking lot), I realised I could give the leg a rest.

The best feature, though, was the paddle shift on the steering wheel. Once I plucked up the courage to use the F1-style gear lever, I was totally in awe of the power the car has.

True, the Amaze is an entry-level car, but it reaches a top speed of 160km/h and is meant for easy, comfort driving, but, gosh, once you power up the sport mode, you will have fun. However, the engine noise is too much. Weighing 900kg with engine performance of 66kW and 110Nm, it is a decent family ride.

Throw in all the extras – the back seat arm rest and cup holder, the rear USB-charging ports, the rear-seat centre seat belt and the Bluetooth connectivity – the Amaze Comfort transforms into a great family sedan.

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
