How to survive Januweary

accreditation

This month is every shopaholic’s nightmare, so here are a few tips to prevent you from withering away in Januweary:

1 When in doubt, sell it

Have you ever gone to a store with a list of things you needed to buy but ended up leaving with all sorts of unnecessary items?

Well, January is the perfect time to let go of your hoarding ways.

You can sell or auction your goods on sites such as bidorbuy, Gumtree and OLX, or use your social media platforms to sell pre-loved items.

2 Cut down on costs

Review expenses such as TV subscriptions, medical aid and insurance policie s to try to negotiate lower premiums.

Weigh up the pros and cons, and get rid of – or cut down on – those you don’t need.

Another option is to do away with certain expenses completely, such as that fight club membership you signed up for but have never used.

Look out for January sales and take advantage of the bargains. Another option is to pay less for groceries by buying fruit and vegetables that are in season.

3 Side hustle your way to success

Tap into your talents and find a way to make extra money out of them.

Most of us don’t have such a hectic social calendar in January, so use this spare time to create an additional income stream.

You can rent out your ride, consider dog sitting in your spare time or become an online tutor.

The key to surviving January is being creative with how you to stretch your cash.

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
