Thato Makape and Yanga Sobetwa will perform at Carnival City and one of them will be crowned the season 14 Idol.

It is the final day of voting for the next South African Idol. We have witnessed all the tears, heartbreak and joys of the Idols SA journey since July and the journey comes to an end this Sunday, November 18.

The two contestants who are left in the show, Thato Makape (24) and Yanga Sobetwa (17), have given their best on the Idols stage at Pretoria’s State Theatre. They will perform for the ultimate prize at Carnival City and are both counting on the viewer’s votes to be crowned season 14’s winner.

Usually the voting lines close on Tuesday night but for this week the lines will stay open till 10pm tonight.

Even before the finale at Carnival City in Boksburg, the show smashed its voting record, with 110 million votes logged late last week. The show has also broken online records, with more than 14 million views on its YouTube channel and more than 100 000 subscribers.

Tickets for the final show were sold out in three minutes, which means the venue will be packed with the contestant’s fans, family and friends. Kwesta, season 13 winner, Paxton Fielies, DJ Black Coffee and AKA are among the artists who are going to perform at the finale.

Both the finalists auditioned in Cape Town. Last year’s winner, Paxton Fielies, is also from Cape Town.

The prizes are spectacular this year. The winner gets a brand new Ford Figo, R30 000 in cash from Capitec bank, a R40 000 fashion voucher from Truworths, a 2GB FreeMe bundle and Huawei P20 from Telkom, R12 000 worth of musical equipment from Yamaha and a recording contract with Universal Music.

You can vote for your favourite by SMSing their unique code to 37400. Yanga’s code is “10” and Thato’s is “07”. An SMS costs R1.50 and free SMSs do not apply . You can also vote the Idols SA mobile site- www.idolssa.tv. Votes on the website are limited to 100 votes a user and they are free.

One lucky voter will walk away R300 000 richer this season.

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
