The Suzuki S-Presso is a shot of caffeine for a hungover budget
The Suzuki S-Presso is a shot of caffeine for a hungover budget

Car dealers have reopened, but none of them is expecting a stampede anytime soon. A depressed economy has shattered many a new-car dream. While some motorists will have to hold on to their cars for longer, others will consider a downgrade to an econobox to help keep the wolf from the door. But downgrade to what if the car you paid R400 000 for is now worth R200 000?

Suzuki has an answer in the brand-new S-Presso. The range is priced from R134 900 to R160 900, making it the country’s most affordable car by far.

Suzuki classifies the S-Presso as an ultracompact SUV because of its high, upright stance and significant ground clearance – the distance between its belly and the road. Though it might be compact for an SUV, it’s roomy inside for a small hatchback and four large adults will fit into it. The boot, at 239 litres, is spacious for a car in this class and there’s a full-size spare wheel under the boot floor.

In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
