If this is just a publicity stunt, then Kelly Khumalo and rapper Chad Da Don – whose real name is Donovan Chad Mansoor – are too good at it!
The jury is still out on whether the two are a real couple or just want to push the sales of Khumalo’s new song Dance Comigo and its steamy video, in which she features her new squeeze, Mansoor,
In the video, Mansoor (25) is seen blissfully staring into her eyes.
The lyrics tell of an interesting love story about how Mansoor has stolen Khumalo’s heart.
“I don’t mean to be forward, no, no / But you make me go loco [crazy] / You looked into my eyes like you know me / You made me realise I am lonely,” croons Khumalo.
The couple radiate joy and are very affectionate in public, and have made no secret of their romance on social media.
This week, they caused a stir on Instagram after posting images of each other’s initials, tattooed on their ring fingers, as a representation of their engagement.
Khumalo then wrote on Instagram: “I said yes.”
Chad responded on the same post: “I asked ... she said yes. Love you my queen.”
However, the public is still convinced that the relationship is nothing but a publicity stunt.
Two well-placed sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told City Press this week that Khumalo might be using this as a ploy to promote the sales of her latest album. “I really don’t think the two are dating. Knowing Kelly, she is doing this as a publicity stunt,” said one.
When contacted for comment, Khumalo made it clear that she was not going to discuss her private life with the media. However, she added, she was open to talking about her new music video.
The bubbly songbird concluded: “The music video was inspired by the Portuguese culture. The Portuguese people embrace relationships, they embrace love – and that, in essence, is what the song is about: love and just celebrating it.”
