Kevin Hart: Don’t F**k This Up

Available on Netflix

1/5

Comedian Kevin Hart wants to be famous. Like, untouchable yet adored kind of famous. Unfortunately for him, that is not how it works. Stars are fallible and they are easily replaced – as quickly has they can become one of the most celebrated people in Hollywood, they can become one of the most hated just as easily.

This rule existed long before we knew who Hart was, so either he didn’t know about it, or he is a narcissist – like many comedians – who believes that his thoughts and opinions on life and society are precious and can’t be challenged. And when these kinds of people are being challenged, they go on a rant and attack the “woke” generation, who have made it their duty to hold people accountable for the things they say and do. Just watch most of the recently released comedy shows by male comedians on Netflix for examples.

Over the holidays, Netflix released a six-part documentary called Kevin Hart: Don’t F**k This Up, where those who are interested enough to tune in get access to what wasn’t a fun couple of months for the comedian. Hart thought his career was finally peaking, but it all (thanks to his own actions) came crashing down spectacularly and in public. And he’s insisting, despite advice from his team, on making already bad problems worse – much like a patient refusing his medicine over and over again.

The part in the series when Hart talks about cheating on Eniko Parrish is hard to watch without becoming frustrated. While trying to make excuses for cheating on his pregnant wife – and portraying himself as a victim – he says: “My crew wasn’t there to protect me.” A grown man needed other grown men to tell him not to cheat on his pregnant wife?

Then there’s Hart being announced as the host for the 2019 Academy Awards, and then publicly stepping down from the gig when a series of his old homophobic tweets resurfaced. He tried to address the issue in a series of statements, appearances, posts and even in this Netflix docuseries, but many, if not all, of these moves to salvage the situation only fanned the flames.

So, was losing the Oscar gig the end of Hart’s career? It certainly took a hectic knock. Can this doccie help it? Not a chance. All I picked up from it is that this docuseries is one of the worst career moves Hart has made to date. In an attempt to redeem himself publically and present himself as imperfect and human, Hart ended up exposing himself for who he really is – a homophobic philanderer. All I know is that Hart is an a***hole – and a***holes tend to dislike every position, view and conclusion that isn’t their own.
