Looking for a face mask?

They’re hard to come by nowadays.

Luckily, clever creatives such as Woodstock Laundry in Cape Town have responded to the need. Their adult face masks, which cost R500 for a pack of 10, are 100% reusable, washable and locally made in a factory in the Mother City.

Buying one of these masks is a great way to support a local small business, rather than purchasing cheap, foreign imports.

Woodstock Laundry has more than 10 stylish designs to choose from, with each mask lined with a specialised moisture-absorbent inner.

The brand is careful to note that its masks are not medical. Instead, they prevent you from touching your nose and mouth, which will help but may not prevent you from getting the Covid-19 coronavirus.

Similarly, P&H boutique has released its own Ankara face masks, which it says come with the following benefits: “Prevents touching of nose and mouth; reduces direct contact with face; assists with sensitivity to dust, smoke and pollution, especially for those with sensitive sinuses; and gives insulation from cold and wind.”

The masks cost R50 each, but they are not medical either.

“It is important to note that these are not surgical/medical masks that prevent one from contracting a coronavirus, but rather they aid in limiting the spread as one is unable to directly touch the areas on the face most susceptible to the virus,” says Hetty Boachie-Yiadom, co-founder of P&H boutique.

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
