Mzansi Magic’s Mnakwethu – a show that has divided people and received backlash from viewers on social media – will air its grand finale on Tuesday night.
Some viewers may feel relieved that the show, rumoured to be staged, is coming to an end.
Viewers had mixed feelings after the first episode aired.
Some lashed out at the show and its host polygamist Musa Mseleku, saying he was an advocate for cheating and was endorsing it in the name of tradition.
Others felt the show’s mandate was to humiliate women.
On the show, a husband writes to the producers about his intention to marry a second wife.
The host, Mseleku, will then proceed to interrogate the gentleman’s motivations before meeting the desired second wife-to-be.
He then proceeds to meet the first wife, whose final word is the letter and the law.
On last week’s reunion part one, Sithokozile Mchunu, who is married to a maskandi artist who goes by the name Qondisani, said her husband never told her about taking a second wife.
On the first episode of Mnakwethu, MaMchunu was irritated after being confronted by cameras when Mseleku asked her how she felt about Samantha Mazibuko, who happened to be in a secret relationship with her husband, was ready to be the second wife.
MaMchunu was heartbroken and felt betrayed by Qondisani – she disapproved of isithembu.
Last week on the show, MaMchunu said all she was asking from Mazibuko was respect.
Mazibuko, who described herself as an open-minded person, said she doesn’t have a problem with MaMchunu, but that doesn’t mean they should be friends.
This week, MaMchunu might shock the viewers as she has changed her mind on how she perceives isithembu.
At first she refused it vehemently.
Speaking to City Press, MaMchunu said she doesn’t have a problem with isithembu.
“I was shocked by the whole thing, and maybe that’s why I reacted the way I did,” MaMchunu said, referring to the first episode when she disapproved of being in a polygamous marriage.
MaMchunu explained that she doesn’t have a problem with isthembu, because that is how she was brought up and that is how he [Qondisani] was brought up.
“It is who we are and our belief system is centred around our ancestors and our practices. There are no problems and our relationship will continue with this new addition,” she said.
What led MaMchunu to change her mind?
This will be revealed on Tuesday evening.
