Moeti “Mo Flava” Tsiki has confirmed to City Press that he will be replacing Thabo “Tbo Touch” Molefe on Metro FM’s drive-time show as from today.

Molefe resigned from the station last month. Tsiki used to co-host The Morning Fix with Lerato Kganyago.

The Soweto-born radio host said he didn’t see this coming. “It was quite a surprise for me considering that I’ve only been at Metro FM for a year and few months. It was not even on my list of objectives anytime soon,” he said.

However the former YFM DJ said he was grateful to Metro FM for the opportunity.

In his new slot, Tsiki will definetely add “flavour” with new features that speak to humour, current affairs, lifestyle, human development and progress. The show aims to tap into what drives people, he said.

“My mind was fixated on The Morning Fix and how I can grow that time slot. But afternoon drive is the kind of slot that every radio personality works towards doing,” he said.

No doubt that Ntsiki will be filling big shoes left by Tbo Touch.

However, he said that the approach was not to fill someone else’s shoes. “Movements on radio happen all the time. I’m aware of the magnitude of the slot, but in the end, radio is radio, whether you’re on at midnight or during the day,” he said.

So how has he prepared himself for this slot with more than a million listenership?

“Radio is a 24/7 medium so preparation is constant, but I have taken time to understand the needs of audiences between 3 and 6pm and our programming is structured around that,” he said.

Asked whether he is ready for any critics, he said: “People will always criticise. If I was worried about critics the whole time, I wouldn’t have a 10 year radio career to speak of.”

“For everything else, listeners must tune in and get a feel based on what they hear.”

Meanwhile, Khanyi Mbau, Somizi Mhlongo and Ntombi Mzolo are set to take over The Morning Fix slot.

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
