Creed
Director: Ryan Coogler
Featuring: Sylvester Stallone, Michael B Jordan
If you’re a fan of this cult franchise, you’ll be jumping for joy.
Before the screening of Creed, I was convinced that this would be just another boxing movie where the main guy gets the girl and whatever championship title he’s fighting for. However, Ryan Coogler, the film’s director, has a different take on things.
Rocky Balboa is back and is still the legendary Italian Stallion. Sylvester Stallone reprises his most famous role, but the Rocky we all fell in love with has aged. This simple man still owns Adrian’s, the restaurant he named after his love interest in the first movies, but for the most part he seems to want to keep to himself.
All this changes when he meets Adonis Johnson, played by Michael B Jordan, who is the son of Rocky’s once archrival, Apollo Creed. Balboa agrees to become Johnson’s mentor, and the movie unfolds as he guides the youngster along the path to becoming a professional boxer.
Placing focus on the young Creed allows Jordan to breathe his youthful talents into the film. He successfully carries the weight of being the main focal point.
It’s definitely worth a watch
