Nasty C’s got his juice back

accreditation

Durban has managed to give birth to a new force in hip-hop. I’m not sure who took Nasty C’s juice, but he definitely got it back with the remix of the smash hit Juice Back, which is as hot as the flames that feature in the backdrop to this video.

The video of the massive hit was released this week, to the delight of fans. Would it be better, we asked, than the Roll Up (Re-Up) video for fellow newcomer eMtee featuring Wizkid and AKA?

Nasty C features Nigeria’s Davido and Mafikeng’s very own Kanye, Cassper Nyovest. Nasty, Davido and Cassper spit out their raps in a rugged outdoor scene with fire and broken-down cars in the background. The goons are also there, hyping the rappers as they let flurry with their rhyme schemes.

Davido flows over this monstrous beat with a touch of autotune. Cassper follows, and at least his ad-libs are nice, but his verse was as forgettable as any other Nyovest lines I’ve heard and since forgotten.

Nasty C closes the track off with a verse littered with quotables. The youngest guy on the track delivers the best raps. I almost forgot Davido and Cassper were on the joint in the beginning.

The streets may be ablaze with eMtee, but on the real this young man, Nasty C, has the potential to carry Durban on his back, as I can boldly say there aren’t many rappers there who can go pound for pound and bar for bar with this lyrical champion. Just ask Cassper.

He has a couple of EPs out, which I would imagine are worth getting your hands on if this track is anything to go by. The video isn’t anything extraordinary, but the song is so great it’s forgivable. Nasty C works within this new soundscape of contemporary hip-hop, but his lyrics are from the old school that would suggest rhymes and content are what matter.

Keep your eye out for this kid, as he is well and truly a problem on these streets.
