. . . . -

Six months after the sweeping success of its first season, The Dragon Prince is back to bring even more epic adventures. Using extraordinary animation, it takes the viewer on a journey as two human princes and an elven assassin team up to bring peace to their warring lands. Years earlier, humans used dark magic, which saw them being driven off by the dragons and elves to one end of the continent. Since then the humans have returned and killed the dragon king and his egg, resulting in the eruption of a war. The elves try to assassinate King Harrow and his heir Prince Ezran (voiced by Sasha Rojen) as their revenge.

It’s then up to Prince Ezran, Prince Callum (voiced by Jack De Sena) and elven Rayla (voiced by Paula Burrows) to undertake the task of preventing a war –though others are intent on it.

The show gracefully builds with each episode as the characters appear deeper and more formed on what it takes to lead as they continue on their quest for each heir to return to their rightful throne.

The animation this time is much better – a sore point for many fans, who complained about computer-generated characters in season one. The second season expands the show’s universe in an assortment of new directions – including the introduction of new monsters and mystical forces at a staggering pace with each episode. The Dragon Prince also has wonderful scenes about how to handle betrayal, heartbreak and disappointment.

A favourite scene is when Prince Callum goes to talk to Prince Ezran about growing up and facing hard truths. The monologue, with emotional significance, deepens later when Callum realises he doesn’t have the courage to tell the truth himself.

This is a deeply satisfying fantasy story that moves way too fast through its nine episodes.
