TV and radio personality Ntombi Mzolo (34) celebrated her birthday by spoiling 10 new yummy mummies at the Pyramid Day Spa in Johannesburg.

The mother of two, who recently gave birth to daughter Linile, said the occasion was also an acknowledgment of the postnatal depression that many women suffer, which is exacerbated if they lack an adequate support system.

“So, as part of my birthday celebration, I felt the need to create a platform of support where new mummies could get a break away from their motherly duties and be treated like queens,” she told City Press this week.

She added that as a new mother, she knew how challenging it was to balance caring for a new baby with maintaining a relationship with one’s partner and taking care of the other children in the family – and how much harder life became if there was no support from family or friends.

On the day, she invited three speakers to motivate her guests: her own mum, Linah Ngcobo, DJ Zinhle and Lynn from Lynn Intimate, who gave a talk about sex and sexuality after giving birth.

One of the attendees, Nompilo Mthembu, told City Press how much this celebration meant to her, adding that the day was made extra special by the speakers, whose advice on balancing motherhood with being a wife she found invaluable.

“Mam’ Ngcobo gave us wise words not only on the spiritual side of things, but also on how to ensure that your relationship remains intact.

“And Lynn is a home builder. I took her advice and the intimate time I spend with my partner has changed for the better,” said the excited Mthembu.

Another mother who had the time of her life is Bontle Motlhako: “I learnt a lot from the three speakers, particularly DJ Zinhle, who talked about balancing your career with your maternal duties.”
