Phiona Okumu has recently joined audio streaming platform Spotify as its artist and label marketing manager for Africa. Okumu will be the primary point of contact for artists, managers, record labels and distributors, with a focus on the music community in South Africa. Spotify is also celebrating one year since its launch in South Africa.
Recently named one of OkayAfrica’s 100 most influential women, Okumu has a knack for spotting the next big trends as well as magnifying the global profile of African artists.
The Ugandan-born who leaves Apple Music where she led editorial, label and artists relations for sub-Saharan Africa, has shared her knowledge of the music industry and its development for some influential titles such as AfriPOP, The Guardian and The Fader.
