A prominent TV star filed for divorce at the Johannesburg High Court this week from his wife of almost four years.
According to divorce papers seen by City Press, the highly paid 44-year-old actor put forward his reasons for divorcing his wife and the mother of his two minor children.
City Press cannot name the parties involved to protect their children.
When City Press contacted the veteran actor for comment, he refused, saying he doesn’t discuss his private life with the media. His estranged wife could not be reached for comment.
In his affidavit before the court, the popular actor said that he and his wife no longer had any love or affection for each other. He also stated that they were now pursuing different interests, and that his wife had moved out of the home they shared last year.
The couple, who were married out of community of property, have reached a settlement on how their assets will be divided.
Last month, the frustrated actor turned to social media to air his dirty laundry and gave his fans signs that his marriage was on the rocks.
In one of his posts, the actor suggested that his wife had been unfaithful.
However, it seems that the couple is headed for an amicable divorce, with reasonable and fair demands.
According to the proposed settlement, the mother of the children will receive R12 000 in maintenance from the actor every month, while both parents will contribute to the maintenance of the children while they are under their care.
“The parties shall each be liable for payment of 50% of all the following costs agreed: educational costs including school and enrolment fees, school uniforms, school stationary, aftercare, extra mural activities, school transport, school tours, outings and camps, cellphone contracts and clothing,” the court papers state.
Under the Children’s Act, both parents should remain co-holders of full parental responsibilities after the divorce is granted.
“The mother of the children shall have them from Sunday evening to Friday morning, while their father will collect them [and have them] until Sunday evening at 5pm for three weekends of the month,” the court papers state.
“The children will remain with their mother for one weekend of the month. Both parties will exercise contact with the children subject to their religious, social, scholastic and extramural activities.”
