Shed away the gloom with Blacks Only Comedy show

accreditation

April marks the beginning of the financial year for government and many companies. As the week began, South Africans were reminded that the next 12 months will be hard going. The petrol price went up by over R1 a litre; while residents will pay a little more to keep their lights on (that’s if there is electricity to start with anyway).

It will be a tough economic year since the country has to contend with an economy that is not growing at the rate we expect, unemployment is high, levels of inequality remain unchanged and poor – or lack of – service delivery is affecting many more.

That is the doom and gloom side of life which requires long-term planning. However, this Saturday night (April 6) shouldn’t be all gloom and boring.

If you don’t have a plan yet – it promises to a chilly night, if the weatherman is to be trusted – Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni should be the place to be.

The Blacks Only Comedy Show is back and promises to be fun and full of laughter as comedians take to the stage to try soothe the pain we will be feeling as the year progresses. As they say, laughter is the best medicine. While long-term solutions to problems of escalating cost of living are being discussed by the powers that be, it doesn’t mean that citizens should not sit back, relax and laugh.

David Kau is the director and MC of the gig, with a line-up of who’s who in the comedy scene from Abuti Lolo, Celeste Ntuli, Conrad Koch, Mo Mothebe, Mojak, Suhayl Essa and Thabiso Mhlongo. This comedy show is no stranger to edgy topics and close-to-the-bone humour.

Tickets start from R260 and the doors will be open at 7pm with the show kicking off at 8pm at Emperors Palace

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
