Stars rev it up at Vodacom Red Track Day experience

Life in the fast lane for some of South Africa’s leading sports stars and celebrities shifted into overdrive as they took part in the exclusive Vodacom Red Track Day experience at Kyalami on Thursday.

Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele and goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo joined rugby players Craig Burden (the Sharks), Ramone Samuels (the Stormers), Duncan Matthews (the Blue Bulls) and others, as well as TV celebrity Lalla Hirayama and radio and television sports presenter Elma Smit and a host of Vodacom Red clients in a day dedicated to motor-racing passion.

They were driven around the track by professional drivers and allowed to drive a range of top Ferraris themselves, while also learning drifting techniques and taking part in team challenges, such as the fastest-driving simulator time and pit tyre change.

“It was my first time driving a Ferrari on a track and it was a great experience.

“The sound of the car and seeing how difficult it is to drive them on the track was fun,” said Jele.

“It was mind blowing. I screamed so loud, but what a thrill.

“I get why people are so passionate about motor racing,” said Hirayama.

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
