Popular Venda television series Muvhango has always been the only prominent drama that proclaimed the Venda tribe – but that’s all about to change because there is a new Venda queen on the market.

Ndivhudzannyi Decorate Ralivhona, popularly known as Makhadzi, has already made her name in Limpopo province and now wants to go nationally.

Makhadzi, who is easily recognisable by her washboard abs, is on a mission to take the country by storm.

With six awards under her belt, she says the sky is the limit for her. She won two awards – best Tshivenda album and best female artist – at Fame SA Awards in 2016 and last year she swept away with four at the Tshivenda Music Awards.

The 23-year-old told City Press that Venda has had musicians for decades but she believes that none has reached where she is today.

She is hoping to be the first one to put Venda in the limelight in terms of music.

Makhadzi believes her career is growing and plans to host a one-woman show in August, calling it Zwa Hashu.

“I want people to come and support me to show that they honour me.

“If they can fill up the stadium it will show they do love me,” she says.

She wants to make history in Venda. “If Cassper [Nyovest] and Benny [Mayengani] can do it, I believe I can do it.”

She says the August show is the biggest thing for her at the moment, adding that she plans to feature most Limpopo musicians. Depending on her budget, she will decide on who to invite from other provinces.

She says her goal is to be successful and to be educated.

Growing up she wanted to be a lawyer but could not realise her dream because she didn’t perform well in matric.

She now has a national diploma in public relations.

She says she soon realised she had chosen the wrong career path – and that was when she decided to be more artistic by enrolling for dance, music and drama.

She believes music is a calling for her.

She started her career at the age of 15 and went on to become a songwriter, singer and a dancer.

Makhadzi comes from Ha-Mashamba, a small village in Tshivhangani in Elim.

She says her music career has already changed her life and taken her to places she never dreamt of.

Later this year she will head back to the Midem Music Festival in France and Music Week in Toronto, Canada.

She is working on her seventh album, which will be released in August.

Moja Love's drug-busting show, Sizokuthola, is back in hot water after its presenter, Xolani Maphanga's assault charges of an elderly woman suspected of dealing in drugs upgraded to attempted murder. In 2023, his predecessor, Xolani Khumalo, was nabbed for the alleged murder of a suspected drug dealer. What's your take on this?
