We love these wallpaper designs by local artists

accreditation

Cape Town-based Orms Print Room & Framing is best known for being a supplier of photographic equipment and digital printing, but recently ventured into creating wallpaper after receiving dozens of requests from clients for this rebooted décor trend.

Head of décor Leanne Barling says they noticed a particular lack of local imagery for wallpaper, and the collaboration was launched with that in mind.

“The images in stock libraries are often generic and overdone … our clients are after something more personal, more locally oriented and bespoke.

When you decide to transform your interior space, you want something that is unique and that you can personally relate to.

That’s when we realised we could create a platform where our artists could interact directly with our clients,” she says.

What makes wallpaper cool is that you can either transform an entire room or choose only one wall to paper. The wallpaper can also be easily removed and replaced with something new if you get bored with it.

The local artists on Orms’ roster include Ahimsa Ali, Ark Paper Studio, Katie Lund, Frances White, Andrea Brand, Cecile Nowars, Liffey Joy, Mariëtte Kotzé, Aimee Hall, Fleur le Cordeur, Lisa Strachan, Nicole Carr, Andrew Hofmeyr, Gaby Beyers, Maria Baumann and Si Maclennan.

The brand will be working with these artists to expand their ranges, and will ask upcoming artists and designers to submit their work for potential use.

The designs range from bold and graphic to whimsical and romantic.

Fleur le Cordeur gives floral a 2019 take, while Strachan uses repetition and botanicals to great effect.

We love that some of the paper speaks to particular rooms – Lund’s pieces would go particularly well in a children’s room, while Maclennan has a great aesthetic for an office space.

“Working with local artists is definitely something we see ourselves doing for years to come,” says Barling.

“At the moment, we are looking to collaborate with artists who have a unique style and point of view; who can bring a creative and personal décor print solution to our incredibly creative and unique clients and their personal spaces.”
