Many South Africans were disappointed by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga’s long-overdue address on Tuesday night when she announced the plan to reopen schools next month.

The schools have been closed since March due to the national lockdown in line with the Covid-19 coronavirus risk-adjusted strategy.

Motshekga’s address fell short of assuring parents and guardians that their children will be safe from contracting the Covid-19 coronavirus when schools reopen on June 1.
