Convicted racist Vicki Momberg was granted R2000 bail on Thursday morning by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, pending appeal proceedings into her sentencing.
Momberg was sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of four counts of crimen injuria on November 3, after a widely circulated video showed her hurling racist insults to a black officer who had tried to assist her after she was involved in a smash-and-grab attack in Northriding in 2016.

The video showed Momberg in a fit of rage degrading black people. She called them “clueless” and used the K-word a staggering 48 times
Magistrate Pravina Rugoonandan said the sentence was handed down as a deterrence to anyone who used the K-word.
Momberg faced more scrutinity after the social workers who testified during her case claimed that Momberg was racist towards them.
Momberg was granted leave to appeal her conviction and her sentence by the South Gauteng High Court on Monday.
The state did not oppose the bail proceedings today. State prosecutor Yusuf Baba said that he had discussed the matter with Momberg’s lawyer, Kingdom Onah.
The matter has been postponed to November 5.
