Spur altercation: CCTV footage shows man grabbing woman’s child

accreditation
Spur has released Closed Circuit Television footage that shows the seconds before the video showing an argument between two parents that went viral on social media.

The CCTV footage, which is taken from the opposite side of the cellphone footage, shows the man grabbing hold of the woman’s child.

The incident happened just before 5.30pm at the Spur restaurant at the Glen on Sunday, March 19.

Lebohang Mabuya stood up in defence of her child, after a previous video showed her screaming back at the man for behaving like a “big bully”.

The video shows the man threatening to hit Mabuya, and try to overturn the table.

Mabuya was hosting a party at the restaurant for her child, and the children were seated at the table when the altercation occurred.

The altercation ensued after the man allegedly approached Mabuya’s table, asking her to discipline her child for hitting his daughter while the children were in the play area of the restaurant.

Mabuya said she was tired of all the media attention which has ensued subsequent to the incident.

“You know, it’s overwhelming, and with my job, I don’t always have my phone with me and so I am tired receiving so many missed calls,” she said.

Yesterday Spur had released another statement apologising to Mabuya and her family for the way in which things were handled by the staff of the restaurant and confirmed that her version of events were in fact true.

“We have reviewed our CCTV footage of the incident and can confirm that Ms Mabuya’s version of events is accurate; the footage shows that her child was grabbed by the male customer in an aggressive manner and his actions are unacceptable,” the statement said.

Mabuya told News24 that she would not be laying charges against the man.

“Honestly speaking, there’s not any hard feelings because I don’t hate him or anything, but for the sake of peace I think it’s best if we do not meet. If he or I apologise, it would be trivial,” she said.
