Six years ago, the remarkable influx of South African talent into the Women in Science National Young Talents Programme in sub-Saharan Africa, established in 1998, led to the creation of a dedicated programme for South Africa.

Named the Women in Science Young Talent Search in South Africa, this initiative provides financial support to doctoral (R80 000 each) and postdoctoral (R160 000 each) researchers under the age of 40, for their research projects.
