Suspected case of Covid-19 at Wits University

A suspected case of the Covid-19 coronavirus has been identified at Wits University in Johannesburg.

According to a statement released by Wits on Friday morning, a medical student at the university has been quarantined.

University management told staff and students that the student had been quarantined after coming into contact with a person who had been identified as having Covid-19.

“The student is being monitored closely and has not displayed any symptoms of Covid-19. The student has been screened and the test results are expected later today,” said the university.

“However, as a precautionary measure, the faculty has cancelled the clinical activities scheduled for the student’s class today. We will keep you updated as soon as we have any further information.”
