EFF leader Julius Malema has said that he will meet with former president Jacob Zuma to discuss the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) alliance following the general elections on 29 May.

He spoke at his party's manifesto on Wednesday, 17 April 2024, at the Don Mateman Community Hall in Eldorado Park, South of Johannesburg.

Malema said that Zuma notified him about his MKP candidacy before he formally launched it last year.

He said:

We absolutely have no problem with president Zuma doing what he is doing, and we are not far apart from MKP policies, we speak land, we speak employment of our people, we speak the restoration of the economy.

He said Zuma has always supported him even before the formation of the EFF.

Malema said the party will prioritise free education if elected to government.

He said the late former president Nelson Mandela should have prioritised free education, instead of the Reconstruction and Development Programme (RDP) after being elected in 1994.

Malema said:

Ntate Mandela shouldn’t have given us RDP houses in 1994. He should’ve given us free education; we were going to build our own houses because when you look at educated people and you look at the percentage of unemployment among educated people, it’s very low.

He said that this means that education, employment and empowerment are the “same WhatsApp group”, they go together.

“Poverty can be defeated by education; drugs can be defeated by education,” he added.

He said the ANC cannot keep blackmailing people with Mandela.

We voted for him. He passed on, let him rest in peace.

Malema told the predominantly coloured Eldorado Park community to not make a mistake and vote for the Patriotic Alliance led by Gayton McKenzie. He encouraged them to vote for the EFF that loves black people, who he said are black, coloured  and Indian people.

He said that he does not think that McKenzie is a politician, adding that his party does not have a manifesto.

“Except that we saw the PA president jumping in the stadium shouting 'mabahambe' instead of addressing about his manifesto.

“We cannot talk to such people," he said.

Malema further emphasised that load shedding is a man-made crisis, asserting that the absence of blackouts during the Rugby World Cup proves its artificial nature.

He cautioned against celebrating the recent 20-day respite from load shedding, warning that "on 29 May, while the IEC is still counting votes, load shedding will be back".
