We work pretty hard to keep our fingers on the pulse and bring you the very best of local pop culture every Sunday. But when we spot ourselves featured it’s pretty dope and we’re not too cool to admit it.

Stay Shining music video:

We spotted our newspaper in Riky Rick’s Stay Shining music video in various shots. Riky said he needed a paper for a couple of scenes and City Press was the obvious choice. What makes this track even more exciting is that it references the kwaito group TKZee’s 1998 video for their classic song Dlala Mapantsula.

Idols semifinal Thanks Verb

Idols semifinal:

We’ve been covering the Idols competition for 14 seasons now. So it was great to collaborate with the team and be the first to announce that the show had reached 110 million votes – smashing its voting record. The cherry on the cake was our poster being part of the opening of the show in which the top two were to be announced. Thanks Verb!

Real Housewives of Johannesburg

Real Housewives of Johannesburg reunion:

This was hands down the most talked-about show on television this year. There was a moment during the reunion when Evodia Mogase, AKA Madame, shouted at Brinnette Seopela about things she had allegedly said in a City Press interview. While we appreciate the mention, Madame – City Press has not had an interview with Brinnette. LOL.
