There was stiff competition among our nominees as to who would go home with the wackest verse of the year, proudly presented by our resident hater Phumlani S Langa.

Although this Nigerian brother is really killing the game internationally, Burna Boy’s African Giant had some underwhelming lyricism, so too did Nadia Nakai’s debut album Nadia Naked – and a special commendation to Boity, who somehow managed to become the first female rapper in South Africa to go platinum.

But the winner by quite some distance is the one and only ... Mufasa! The last remaining hope of Motswako gave us the well-received hit Move for Me. The song features the artful Boskasie, using her completely wrong, and then goes on to fly in some Insta-model from the States that nobody knows, to appear in his island-styled video.

Cassper rapped or sang or whatever he’s doing on Move for Me, “Girl you really got me in the mood/ Outchea with your friends acting loose/ Got me and my brothers outa juice/ Teddy had a minute chake a duice/ I’m so into you I hope that you want me too (want me too)/ Want me too, want me too, want me too/Ah, girl I’m so into you, I don’t know what I should do (I should do)/ What I should do, ah.”

Now what exactly is even going on with this rhyme scheme? As far as poor poetry goes, this is a five-star hit and it gives me great pleasure to award Mufasa with the Wackest Verse of the Year Award. Hold on to that with pride boy.
