The Isibaya Casino and Entertainment Complex is a hive of activity and excitement ahead of tonight’s seven-bout Fox Sports Africa Boxing 7 tournament.

The event, part of a string of boxing tournaments that are a brainchild of the partnership between Fox Sports and Sun International, is the first to be staged in South Africa and seventh overall.

Previous tournaments have been in Tanzania, Botswana and the last one was in Swaziland late last year.

Despite the withdrawal of local drawcard, heavyweight boxer Marc Subramoney, who fights out of Chatsworth, Durbanites, who have been starved of top flight boxing for quite some time now are still excited as two local boys will make an appearance at the show. Subramoney was to face the hard-hitting Justice Silinga but pulled out a few days ago because of a wrist injury.

The two local lads in tonight’s event are Ricardo Hiraman, who faces Tshepang Babui of Botswana in an International featherweight six round contest, and Jaydene Matthew, who will lace his gloves up against Limbani Lano of Malawi in an international cruiserweight contest of six rounds.

Headlining the bill are two World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African title fights that will be contested over 12 rounds each.

South African Ayanda Nkosi puts his WBA Pan African Lightweight belt on line against Cosmos Cheka of Tanzania while his compatriot, Sikho Nqothole, will try to claim the vacant WBA Pan African Super Flyweight diadem when he faces off with Sunday Kiwale of Tanzania.

The DA recently released a controversial election ad in which the national flag is consumed by flames. Many took to social media to criticise the party, with former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela expressing disappointment, saying the DA could have used other ways to send its message. Do you think the DA took it too far with this ad?
