Jaguars set to win netball league

Western Cape’s Southern Stings set up a final with Gauteng Jaguars in the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League (BFNPL) after beating Free State Crinums.

The last time the Stings played Crinums, the Stings cruised to a comfortable 23-goal victory.

But this time around Crinums time around fierce fight, the Stings led by one at the first break, while it was the Crinums that were one goal in front by half time.

They eventually won 49-45 and book a spot in their first ever final.

Stings will play Gauteng Jaguars tomorrow at University of Pretoria at 12pm.

“It feels amazing – but the team worked for that,” said Stings coach Annelie Lucas.

“They said they wanted to be in the finals. This was the game in which we didn’t perform in the last two years so they just decided it’s not going to be like that this time.”

With the Jaguars winning all their games in this year’s BFNPL they are the red hot favourites to clinch the trophy for the second time.

The non-stop netball, which started on May 11 in Johannesburg, will come to an end when the Gauteng Jaguars take on Free State Crinums in Pretoria tomorrow.

The Jaguars have been amazing this season, making their intentions clear from their first game when they beat Northern Cape Diamonds 81-12.

Since then, they have been causing all sorts of problems for every team facing them.

Only Limpopo Baobabs scared them, leading 7-6 at the beginning of their match but eventually lost 70-32.

In week three, Jaguars were tested again when they met the team they stole the title from in last year’s finals.

Despite having a difficult start, they emerged victorious 45-36.
