Make way, Akani Simbine and Wayde van Niekerk, there is a new sprint talent in town. 

His name is Bayanda Walaza, and he has just turned 18.

The matriculant is set to be among the ones to watch when the SA Senior Track and Field Championships take off in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday.

The four-day track and field meet, which incorporates combined events and relay competitions, will take place at Msunduzi Athletics Stadium.

As much as national record holder Simbine and the decorated 400m runner Van Niekerk are the poster athletes of SA athletics, the emergence of Walaza on the scene is threatening to change the status quo.
