In a statement released on Thursday, the Buccaneers said that Motshwari presented with flu-like symptoms last week. “After undergoing tests, his results came back positive.”
Pirates said that Motshwari was still showing no symptoms and was in isolation at home. The club said they had alerted the relevant health officials.
The team said they have advised Motshwari to notify the doctors of all the people he had been in contact with to ensure that they are traced and tested.
“He will need to test negative before he is cleared. The health and well-being of our players, officials and the wider community remain our highest priority in this difficult period,” the club said.
The news comes on the day the PSL executive is expected to convene a virtual meeting to deliberate discuss health and safety match-day protocols, in a bid to convince government to allow the season to resume.
Once the executive agrees on the nitty gritties, the document will be sent to the Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa for consideration.
