Kgothatso Montjane, South Africa’s highest ranked wheelchair tennis ace, was officially handed her Audi Q2 sponsorship in Polokwane, Limpopo on Wednesday.

After her historic Wimbledon showing last month where she reached the semifinals, she came back home to the welcome news that she would be receiving 10 sponsors including Audi Polokwane.

In total the sponsors contributed just below R1.5 million but the big one was Audi who announced they will sponsor her with a car.

“I am very happy about this. It took a lot of hard work. I can only cherish this,” she said.

“As an athlete and as a brand I will make sure I represent your brand as good as I represent myself on court.”

Montjane said she was “extremely excited and will keep working hard to attract more support”.

The Seshego-born player returned to the top five in the world rankings on Monday following her last four exit at the US Open.

The-32-year-old defeated world number eight Lucy Shuker from Britain to reach her first semifinal.
