Safa is expected to announce Tebogo Motlanthe as the new acting chief executive on Friday.
Motlanthe, who is Safa’s general manager of legal affairs, will fill the vacancy left by Gay Mokoena who quit last month.
Mokoena had been acting in the position for five months. His sudden departure has caused a rift in the association after he alleged interference by Safa president Danny Jordaan in the Mokoena Report.
But Jordaan has denied all the allegations and there have been calls to either suspend Mokoena, who is one of the association’s vice-presidents, or to appoint a retired judge to investigate his claims. The other option suggested is to take the matter to Fifa’s ethics committee for investigation.

Initially, it was expected that Gronie Hluyo, Safa’s chief financial officer, would fill the post.
But City Press has been reliably informed that the national executive committee members were asked to endorse Motlanthe’s appointment, albeit on an interim basis.
Safa has not had a permanent CEO since Dennis Mumble’s contract was not renewed in September 2018. Russell Paul was appointed as Mumble’s replacement – also on an interim basis – but he quit last October to take a job with the Qatar 2022 World Cup organising committee.
Safa is not expected to advertise the position but would headhunt a suitable candidate, according to an insider.
