It is the top versus the bottom when Kaizer Chiefs host AmaZulu in tomorrow’s Absa Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium.

On paper, Chiefs should not have any problems disposing of struggling Usuthu to maintain their lead at the top of the table. But football is not played on paper, and Amakhosi will have to do the job on the field of play.

Fresh from their morale-boosting hard-fought victory over rivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby last weekend, Chiefs have a chance to extend their lead to 10 points over second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who are on CAF duty this weekend.

All eyes will be on AmaZulu caretaker coaches Ayanda Dlamini and Moeneeb Josephs to see if they can steer their ship to calmer water after the suspension of Jozef Vukušic, who was placed on special leave earlier this week.

Pirates/Arrows

Pirates travel to the coast where they visit Golden Arrows tomorrow evening. The Buccaneers will be looking to bounce back from their Soweto derby defeat, which put a huge dent on their title ambition. They are now nine points behind Chiefs and have played one more game than Amakhosi. They could end the weekend second on the log – overtaking Sundowns – if they beat Steve Komphela’s side.

Baroka/Leopards

Another intriguing affair is the battle of relegation in a Limpopo derby between Baroka and Black Leopards. The two bottom sides are 14 and 15 respectively and, together with AmaZulu, they are all on 20 points.

Chippa/Wits

Chippa United, who will have a new face on the bench – Rhulani Mokwena – visit Bidvest Wits in another crucial clash for the Eastern Cape side. Chippa did not waste time appointing Mokwena after the departure of Norman Mapeza on Monday. Sixth-placed Wits are still reeling from their 2-0 loss to SuperSport United and will want to get back to their winning ways at the expense of the out-of-sorts Chilly Boys.
