PSL general manager Derek Blanckensee and junior staffer Thami Khuzwayo have been put on special leave pending a disciplinary hearing.

The pair are in trouble with the league and will appear before a disciplinary committee on July 19.

City Press is in possession of a circular dated July 6 2016 from acting CEO Mato Madlala sent to all clubs advising them of who to communicate with in the absence of the two.

“Mr Derek Blanckensee and Mr Thami Khuzwayo will not be in office until further notice,” reads part of the circular.

“In respect of the lodgment of documents, registrations and requests for information, please deal with Ms Phindi Dlamini, who will be assisted by Mr Daniel Leboa, who many of you know and who has many years of experience in these areas.

“On other football-related matters including questions about fixtures and responses to communications we will shortly be circulating in that regard, please deal with Mr Selwyn van Wyk.”

Madlala said she could not comment on legal matters and referred all queries to the head of the legal division, Michael Murphy.

Murphy confirmed that the two would appear before a disciplinary committee.

“I can confirm that there are disciplinary proceedings against the two names you mentioned, but that does not mean anyone is guilty or innocent as yet. We are going to have a hearing chaired by an independent chairperson,” said Murphy.

But he refused to divulge the nature of the charges the two were facing, saying it was a confidential matter between the league and its employees.

Murphy added that they were trying to tighten the administration.

“There are strict liabilities in any business and we have to do everything by the book. We always have cases when clubs and players are at fault and we must do the same with the office too,” he said without giving too much away.

Efforts to get hold of Blanckensee were unsuccessful. He did not answer his phone or return a message left for him. Instead, he got the league’s media person to call City Press.

The former Bidvest Wits chief executive is regarded as one of the best administrators in the country and is also known to be thorough at his job.

He also served as the 2010 Fifa World Cup Local Organising Committee chief competitions officer.

Before the end of the season, the league was marred by two cases of improperly registered players at Jomo Cosmos and Baroka FC involving Thabo Modiba and Tshepo Matete.

Another case involved Chippa United and Platinum Stars over the registration of Siyabonga Zulu.
