Steers hosted a kings table where some of South Africa’s faces were celebrated with a three course meal ahead of the launch of the fast food chain’s new boerewors burger.
The room at Newtown Junctions Turbine Hall was full of those who are seen to be ‘kinging’ (dominating) in their line of work.
The event showcased a combination of food meets fashion, music, dance and art, while the guest list included producer and artist Anatti, DJ Switch, fashionista Siyanda Bani, Isibaya actress Sibusisiwe Jili, Isithembiso actor Sandile Vincent Mahlangu and former Idols contestant Keegan Martin.
Guests were fine-dined and treated to a three course meal prepared strictly from Steers products by celebrity chef Luyanda Mafanya.
MTV Base’s Sandile Ntshingila hosted the guests and told City Press of his childhood history with Steers: “I haven’t been cued for this right, but apart from their Wacky Wednesday Special, you really can’t go wrong with their chips. It’s like they are made by uGogo (your granny) and growing up, when at home, we got Steers. I always looked forward to the toys that came with the kiddies meal.”
The main event – the Boerewors King burger – is a three patty burger, which can be a mouthful for many, but a go-to meal for any cheat day.
The burger earned its title after meeting health requirements of being a 100% beef burger.
Steers marketing executive, Adolf Fourie, said that all they “want is to associate our brand as being forward thinking and a celebrator of our talent” in South Africa.
Fourie added that the Steers boerewors burger is not a boerie burger because there are very strict criteria and regulations regarding naming something a boerewors.
“The burger has to be 100% beef. You need to meet certain criteria, almost like champagne, there’s regulations around that. So we thought why not be the first brand to launch a boerwors and not just a boerie.”
Many of the guests seemed to give the boerewors burger the thumbs up.
