What are you doing from June 8 to 16? Would you like to take part in a good cause to save our oceans and earn one dollar for every kilometer you run?

If you answered yes then Adidas and Parley want you to join the Run For The Oceans Challenge and log in your distance ran or walked. Parley is an ocean school programme that equips the next generation of Ocean Guardians.

Run For The Oceans kicks off globally on Saturday, which is World Oceans Day, and will run until the next Sunday.

To join, all you need to do is download the Runtastic app and join the Run For The Oceans Challenge and start logging in your kilometers as from 8 June. For each ran or walked kilometre Adidas will contribute one dollar to Parley Ocean School.

The school empowers and educates future generations on the problem of marine plastic pollution.

Follow social media and check out #RunForTheOceans and #TrashTalk, where runners, sports personalities and influencers will be motivating people and pushing for the public to take part in this initiative. This is a great way to be a good Samaritan while doing something that your body will thank you for. This could be the one good thing you do for someone while also benefiting yourself physically and emotionally.

2) As much as 40% of the world oceans are heavily affected by human activities, including pollution, depleted fisheries and loss of coastal habitats and then;

3) Studies indicate that at least 5 trillion pieces weighing over 250 000 tons are floating in the world’s oceans.

4) Our rainwater, drinking water, weather, climate, coastlines, much of our food and the oxygen we breathe are provided and regulated by the sea.

Many took to social media to criticise the party, with former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela expressing disappointment, saying the DA could have used other ways to send its message.
