Recently revealed at FNB Art Joburg, Lalela’s new line of scarves are beautiful works of art.

The Lalela Scarf is an international luxury fashion brand that exclusively supports Lalela, a nonprofit arts education programme in sub-Saharan Africa for young people at risk.

The designs on the scarves are the pupils’ original artworks and each collection is curated by New York-based creative director Sandy Tabatznik, who draws on stand-out paintings and then adapts their format.

“Lalela provides educational arts to young people at risk to spark creative thinking and awaken the entrepreneurial spirit,” she says.

The Lalela Scarf was first conceived as a means of funding Lalela, but has grown into a stand-alone luxury brand in its own right and is a member of the prestigious Positive Luxury Brand, which includes other top-tier brands such as Louis Vuitton.

The latest Lalela collection includes scarves, pocket squares, bandanas and leather bags.

The scarves are quite pricey, ranging from R1 600 for cotton silk scarves to R3 000 for cashmere scarves, with all proceeds going towards Lalela.

The range is available at selected retail outlets in the US, South Africa and Australia, and online via thelalelascarf.co.za
