Singer and songwriter Nhlanhla Nciza celebrated her new mentorship role with DJ duo 2PM on Friday.

Under her new role as Chivas brand partner, Nciza decided to take Palesa Maakwe and Palesa Manne under her wing and guide them as their music career takes off.

Nciza walked into the intimate Breakfree Estate house in a choral midi dress and floral mule loafers to meet the 2PM DJs and their producer DJ Maphorisa.

After a brief listening session to the duos up coming single, the musical talents took to the patio for a sip of cool whiskey under the warm February sun.

Maakwe and Manne have been friends for almost 10 years and found their love of music through their friendship.

“The music thing came about with us going out, listening to the same genre. Actually started as a joke – how about we do it on our own?” said Maakwe

After deciding to take music seriously the two kick-started their career by completed their DJ training at Fuse Academy.

Nciza came across the Djs on social media after being tagged in multiple posts and seeing their pictures.

She took a special interest after she found out they all come from the same township – Kagiso in the west of Johannesburg.

“I just thought they are hard workers, they are hustlers because they would never stop bothering me,” said Nciza.

“Once I heard them play at a friends birthday party that’s when I thought wow these guys are really talented.”

The two Djs are beyond excited to be mentored the Mafikizolo singer.

“We are so overwhelmed, we’re excited, we’re very very happy,” said Manne.

After being in the music industry for two decades Nciza is happy to pay forward what she has leant over the years.

“Somebody twenty years ago gave me an opportunity and gave me a chance to showcase my talent and those are the people that you learn from and I wanted to do the same,” said Nciza.

Chivas in partnership with Nciza presented a cheque to the DJs to help kick off their career.

The pair together with their producer are still perfecting their single and are yet to come up with a name for it.

The song is expected to be released soon but the DJ’s did not commit to a date.

The DA recently released a controversial election ad in which the national flag is consumed by flames. Many took to social media to criticise the party, with former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela expressing disappointment, saying the DA could have used other ways to send its message.
