Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar

If ever there was a refreshing concept then it’s this one. The Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar opened a new branch at the Daytona car dealership in Melrose Arch – that’s right in the middle of the showroom – to set up its aromatic and scrumptious spot. To be honest, it’s equally beautiful and heart-breaking to sip on a cappuccino while lovingly gazing at a brand-new Ferrari.

Many of you would be familiar with the franchise, which has become a popular spot to visit and make your presence on Instagram known by posing in front of the Naked green tiled wall.

But that’s not the only reason The Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar is the place to go. The produce you’ll enjoy is fresh, the smell and taste of their gourmet coffee is out of this world and the home-style cooking produces delicious meals.

It’s a gourmet deli and coffee concept by co-owners Shaun Els and Victor Barbosa.

“Our focus is on coffee and the artisanal way of making it. Attention to detail is important both in design and our product offering,” says Barbosa. The name Naked Kitchen showcases the raw seasonal produce, which is keenly put together and cooked by a talented team of young chefs. Naked Kitchen’s spread will not only tickle your taste buds but it will also have you spoiling yourself with healthier vegan options.

My favourite on the menu was the coconut, mango and banana blended with almond milk topped with mixed berries, chia seeds, Naked muesli, toasted coconut shavings and seasonal fruit. A healthy meal never tasted that good.

I was there on a Sunday morning so it had a perfectly quiet and relaxed atmosphere. I walked in feeling intimidated by the concept – mostly being too close to a salesperson (part of their job is to bother people, I guess) but luckily it was like being in any other coffee shop where people were coming to have breakfast or business meetings.

No one was trying to sell me a Porsche (sadly). I’d recommend this spot if you’re trying to impress a certain type of person you’re meeting with or if you need a healthy start to your day in a place where dreams are encouraged.

The DA recently released a controversial election ad in which the national flag is consumed by flames. Many took to social media to criticise the party, with former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela expressing disappointment, saying the DA could have used other ways to send its message. Do you think the DA took it too far with this ad?
