Budweiser’s BudX Lab Johannesburg’s event, held in the heart of Braamfontein on Wednesday evening, was not only packed to capacity but packed with dullness for guests who weren’t students.

The do, which had an impressive line-up of deejays, including Tira, Vitoto, Maphorisa and Moonchild, was packed with students who braved the cold to see their idols in action, but was a complete bore for media who had to bear numerous excuses about delays.

So bad was the organisation that some media had to take photos of Maphorisa through a window as only one media house was allowed into the interview, rendering the event a complete waste of a precious cold night.

The gig was supposed to be the launch of a cultural collaboration of some kind. A 100-word release issued on it merely stated that it was a “platform for budding talent to seize the moment and take their careers to the next level while rubbing shoulders with and playing alongside veteran artists”.

As if the organisation was not bad enough, the only place one could find drinking water without paying at least R20 was outside the venue. This led to the immediate departure of the media types.

The DA recently released a controversial election ad in which the national flag is consumed by flames. Many took to social media to criticise the party, with former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela expressing disappointment, saying the DA could have used other ways to send its message. Do you think the DA took it too far with this ad?
